How Post-UTME Examination Is Conducted- Guidelines For Beginners

About

Post-UTME, or post-JAMB, is an examination conducted by Nigerian universities for students who wish to enroll in their school. The test typically takes place from August through December every year, approximately 1 to 3 or 1 to 4 months after the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exam.

The purpose of the Post-UTME exam is to further evaluate candidates' academic and intellectual abilities beyond their JAMB scores, as well as to verify the authenticity of their credentials. Unlike UTME, which is a nationwide standardized test, the Post-UTME is managed and supervised by each university independently.

The first Post-UTME exam was conducted in 2005 during the administration of Nigeria's former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, as a way to address the issue of admission irregularities in Nigerian universities.

Reasons for Post-UTME test.

According to The Guardian Newspaper, The federal government of Nigeria move the motion to of testing each candidate to ensure that they are competent and qualified to be admitted into Nigerian universities. Why the move?

"Some previous year ago, a girl applied to study economics at the University of Ibadan with excellent results from her in the school certificate examination and UTME. She had eight distinctions in eight subjects at the school certificate level and 284 marks in the JAMB.
During the interaction, the panel members were so “impressed” with her supposed results that someone from the team, probably out of curiosity, posed a simple question to her. The lady began to fidget. Initially, some of the panel members thought she was intimidated by the presence of some professors, thereby, giving her time to relax. But, alas, the candidate bungled the answer, as she later confessed that someone wrote the exams for her" -
