Whether you score high or you have low scores, there are a couple of things you need to prepare ahead of if you want to continue your study at your favorite university. These include documenting and uploading your O'level results, changing course or institution, preparing for your post-UTME examination, and so on.

If you fail your JAMB, you should not feel bad for it. This is not the end of the road for you. You still have other chances to prepare for another examination. But before that, you can find a trade to learn. Finding something to do is better than staying for a whole year without doing anything. There are many works out there you can learn to support yourself while at school. You may need to see this article on the top 10 jobs you can do as a student. There are also other methods you can gain admission without the JAMB examination. For more information about this, see this article - how to gain admission without JAMB

In this article, I am going to mention 10 things you need to do after your JAMB examination. Stay tuned as a will explain these things in detail.

1. Find out your university cut-off mark

You should find out whether your JAMB score tally with the required mark that you will need to study at the school you choose during your registration. There is a designated cut-off mark for each institution across Nigeria. Ranging from federal to state/private universities. Then we also have different polytechnics. All these institutions have their different JAMB cut-off marks. These cut-off marks are what is required for students to have before they can be considered to study at any of the institutions.

2. Find out your department cut-off mark

Don't get it twisted, the department cut-off mark is different from the JAMB cut-off mark. They are independent of each other. Your department mark is what you must pass to be able to study a certain course at the University of your choice. For example, the University of Lagos JAMB cut-off mark is 200 and above but to study a competitive course in medicine & surgery or engineering one has to score higher than 250.

3. Prepare all your O'level results

Your O'level results like WAEC or NECO will be requested when you want to write your Post-UTME examination. You will need to print out the hard copy of the result. If you have two settings, you will need to prepare them in case you want to do a result combination.

4. Upload your O'level results on the JAMB portal

Uploading your O'level results to the JAMB portal is very important. The JAMB management only considered/recommended the students who uploaded their O'level results for admission. You need to upload it if you don't want to miss the admission.

If you belong to the category of students who registered for awaiting results, you will be told to upload your result as soon as you get your result.

For those of you that have already uploaded your own during registration, you don't have to be worried again.

5. Consider Changing your course or university if appropriate

If you find out that you will not be able to study a particular course due to a low score,  you should quickly change it to fit in with what you get. To do so the candidate will have to visit the JAMB website or any of their accredited CBT center to do the amendment.

Your JAMB score will determine whether you will switch your course or university. Changing courses or universities often resulted in one of two reasons; (1). If your score is below the cut-off mark of the course you wish to study or (2). If the score is less than what the school will accept.

Remember, to change the course to a new one, your subject combination must match the new course you want to switch to.

6. Print out your JAMB original result slip

Your original result will be needed for post-UTME screening. Print it out and document it. To print the slip, you will need to log in to your JAMB account. You may need to read this article on how to print your JAMB original slip. The original slip Is different from your notification results. The UTME management who have to announce it before students can print it out

7. Prepare for Post-UTME

If you have found a university that you are interested in and your cut-off mark tally with what they required of you, then start to prepare for your Post-UTME

Not all universities write the examination. Some only do the screening. You can find out whether the school you choose to do or don't. Check out this article - How post-UTME is conducted in Nigeria to see a list of schools that write the exam and the ones that don't. If they write the exam, look for the school Post-UTME past questions and start your preparation. Make sure you also make available the money you need for the screening enrollment. Typically, you will need around 2 000 to 5 000 for the Post-UTME screening form. The money you need depends on the school you choose. You can do well to find out yourself.

8. Prepare for your school fees

Do you think that is it too early to prepare for your school fees? No. Once you know the fees of the school you are applying for, start to prepare for it. Getting school fees ready in the early stages will help you in the long run.

Although there may be other things, the one I mentioned in this article is the major one. Try to do them if you haven't. Remember not all of them you must do. Only do the ones that may be of concern to you. Have a nice day.
