The Management of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced the commencement of the January/February 2023/2024 first series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) which is popularly known as GCE or WAEC for private candidates. The registration has already been started and is currently going on. 

If you are planning to be enrolled in this upcoming examination, this article is for you. 

In this article, I am going to walk you through the process of registering for the examination, paying the registration fees, as well as how to do your fingerprint validation(thumbprinting). Other topics like the payment fee and registration deadline will be discussed in this article. You have a lot to learn. Please pay constant attention to every piece of this article for a better understanding.

Registration (period)dates 

The registration date for 2023/2024 WAEC(GCE) for private candidates' first series examination begins on Wednesday, 21st of December 2022, and will end on Friday, 20th of January, 2023. It is a 29-days interval. Aspirants are promptly advised to start registering for their own.

Registration payment 

18, 000 naira. Intending candidates are to pay the sum of eighteen thousand (18 000) naira to buy the registration pin at any WAEC-accredited bank across the country. Scroll down to know how to buy the pin and how to do registration by yourself

Requirements to register for (GCE) first series

1. A valid phone number and email address.

2. Postal address and other contact information. 

3. 2.0-megapixel passport.

4. Biodata (this includes your full name, state of origin, date of birth, etc.).

5. Examination subjects ( both minimum and maximum is 9 )

You can register for your examination either online or in a cyber cafe. Follow the below procedure carefully.

How to register for WAEC (GCE) at a bank or cyber cafe


To register for the examination in any of the WAEC accredited a bank or cybercafés:

1. walk into any nearest WAEC office, cybercafe, or bank.

2. Tell them you want to register for the 2022/2023 GCE second series examination.

3. Buy the WAEC registration pin.

4. Fill out the form that will be issued to you and pay your fee.

5. Print out your photo card

How to register for WAEC (GCE) online

1. Visit waeconline.org.ng. on your browser 

2. On the WAEC website, scroll down and click on the WASSCE(for private candidates) button.

3. Next, click the "start registration" button.

4. Enter your unique username, your password, and your pin on the form provided

5. Upload your passport capture using the webcam. You are required to take a picture with a webcam with a minimum Camera Specification* 2.0MP 720p USB 2.0 Color, 2.0 megapixels.

6. Enter your contact information. Make sure you enter the exact state and city you are currently staying in because the location you enter will determine the place you will be sent to write your examination.

7. Select subjects for your examination. You are required to select a minimum and maximum of 9 (nine) subjects only.

8. Lastly, print out your photo card. This card serves as a source of verification as to whether you register or not. You are required to print this card. Without this card, you will not be allowed to write the examination.


General Notice for all candidates 

CANDIDATES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS:

Candidates with special needs will also register online like other candidates but they must clearly state their Impairments e.g Visual, Low vision, Spastic, Speech, Hard to hear, etc

National Identification Number(NIN) requirements.

As part of its new policy and by the federal government of Nigeria, the management of the WAEC required all interested candidates to have a valid NIN before registration.

Examination preparation 

Intending candidates are advised to practice with the WAEC past questions and the recommended syllabus during their preparation.
