O' Level Requirements For Admission

O' Level Requirements For Admission

Is It Possible To Study A Course With D7, E8, Or F9 At The University?

Many students who have just completed their O'level exams may wonder if they can still study their desired course at a university with low grades such as D7, E8, or F9. The answer to this question is not straightforward, as it depends on various factors, including the subject's relevance to the course and the university's admission policies.

Firstly, it's important to note that D7, E8, or F9 grades are generally considered low-level grades in the ranking of O'level results. In the WAEC and NECO marking schemes, these grades are considered failures and have no points attached to them. This means that they do not contribute to the calculation of the aggregate score used for university admission.

Despite the general rule that low grades in O'level results do not contribute to university admission calculations, there are some exceptions to this. Certain universities may take into account lower grades in specific subjects that are not relevant to the course of study.

For example, a student who wishes to study Law may not be affected by a D7 grade in Agricultural Science, as it is not considered a relevant subject for the course. Therefore, this lower grade may not impact their admission chances.

In addition, it's important to note that certain universities may have strict policies regarding the grades they accept for admission. For instance, some universities may require a minimum of a C6 in both English Language and Mathematics for admission into any course.

In such cases, a student with a D7 or E8 grade in either of these subjects would fall short of the minimum requirement and would not be eligible for admission.

Here are some courses that require a minimum grade of C6 in their relevant subjects for admission. Relevant subjects refer to the specific subjects that are necessary to study the course in question.
