Admission Requirements
a) Admission to any programme at the University requires a grade higher than a pass in the English Language. However, for B.A. Educ/B.Ed degree programmes, Teachers' Grade II (TC II) is accepted.
b) An Ordinary Level Credit pass in the English Language is deemed equivalent to a pass in General Paper at the Principal Level of the Higher School Certificate.
c) For Direct Entry:
(i) Candidates seeking admission to the Faculties of Environmental Design and Management, Health Science, Pharmacy, and Technology must have a minimum of three (3) 'A' Level Science subjects or ND/HND (Upper Credit) as stated.
(ii) The Faculty of Education mandates that candidates have two (2) Teaching subjects from Colleges of Education, with Guidance and Counselling not accepted as a Teaching subject.
(iii) NCE Holders from affiliated or nonaffiliated Colleges of Education are eligible for admission into Part II.
FACULTY OF EDUCATION (UTME)
The UTME requirement for admission into the Faculty of Education is a minimum of five (5) credits obtained from a nationally or internationally recognized examination body, or an equivalent qualification such as TOII Credit/Merit passes.
These credits must include the English Language for all disciplines. Furthermore, candidates applying for Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Education programs must have a compulsory Credit pass in Mathematics.
Principles and Practice of Education
As per OAU's new admission policy, "Principle and Practice of Education" is now recognized as an acceptable subject for admission. Further requirements specific to each program can be found in the respective Faculties' table.
Direct Entry Requirements
Candidates applying for Direct Entry admission into the Faculty of Education must meet the 'O' Level requirements and possess GCE 'A' Level passes or NCE Credits/Merits in two relevant teaching subjects. Alternatively, they can have one professional/teaching subject offered as a double major or one professional subject combined with a teaching subject. It is not necessary to combine a course/subject offered as a double major with any teaching subject. However, if a candidate has a pass in one of the teaching subjects, they may still be considered for admission if the aggregate is not less than seven (7) points overall.
For admission into the Faculty of Education, professional subjects that can be combined with teaching subjects include Primary Education Studies (PES), Guidance and Counselling, Computer Science/Studies, and any Special Education specialization.
Candidates with NCE certificates in vocational subjects such as Electrical Electronics, Auto Mechanics, and Building Technology are eligible for admission into the B.Ed. Mathematics/Integrated Science or Physics Education programs.
Candidates with NCE certificates in Business Studies or Home Economics are eligible for admission into either the B.Sc Education (Economics) or B.Ed Social Studies programs.
Candidates with NCE certificates in Office Management, Secretarial Studies, Typing, and Shorthand are eligible for admission into the B.Ed Social Studies program.
Additionally, candidates with a minimum Merit pass in Diploma in Education from any recognized institution are eligible for Direct Entry admission.
